Enjoy an exclusive interview with Greg Nicotero exploring his imagery, directing, special effects and make-up from The Walking Dead season 7 premiere

What would you ask The Walking Dead executive producer and special effects guru Greg Nicotero if you had the opportunity to “pick his brain” (nice zombie reference, eh)? Undead Walking’s Tracey Phillipps  did just that at Walker Stalker Con Atlanta.

Walker Stalker Con is a great way to get up close and personal with cast members from The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, and other favorite shows in the horror and science fiction universe.

Sometimes you have the opportunity to visit with someone who also works on the other side of the camera.  This was the case for me at Walker Stalker Con Atlanta when I was able to sit down with special makeup effects genius Greg Nicotero.

Greg co-owns KNB EFX Group with fellow special makeup effects artist Howard Berger. The very popular studio is located in Los Angeles.

Of course, Greg also plays the roles of executive producer and director on The Walking Dead in addition to his special makeup effects work on the show.

And, yes, Greg does have experience in front of the camera as well.  He has played at least four walkers that I can think of on The Walking Dead.

Needless to say, Greg Nicotero has a wealth of knowledge to share from his many different roles and I was thrilled to be able to speak with him.

We explored his process in both directing and make-up.  We also talked about all the important imagery in the season 7 premiere. Watch the interview here to get exclusive input from Greg Nicotero.

It was most certainly a pleasure speaking with Greg Nicotero and being able to gain special insight into his work. He was so very generous with his time.

Greg definitely had a steady stream of fans working their way through his line to meet him and get a selfie or an autograph.  He was also a very popular guest in the Negan panel with Jeffrey Dean Morgan.  Greg’s passion for his work is evident when he speaks.

I would also like to extend a big thank you to Fan Fest, the parent company behind Walker Stalker Con, for all they do to connect fans to The Walking Dead.
