We return to the aftermath of Negan’s encounter tonight on The Walking Dead, as Daryl’s life hangs in the balance. The wispy feathers of his own arrows now pointed at his direction. For the first time, his trusty bow, an enemy.

The Negan Effect: Daryl Dixon

One inadvertent punch led to Glenn’s untimely end. Daryl could barely contain himself after what happened to Denise, now he might never be able to forgive himself. It wasn’t that long ago Daryl felt an immense sense of guilt for losing Beth… Then the chance to redeem himself came into view, right there almost at his fingertips. The faintest prospect dangling into real opportunity. Then the dream turned to reality. Upon discovering her location, he was not able to rescue Beth, losing her in front of his very eyes. Now another connection to Maggie, the love of her life, husband and soon to be dad… Gone. Never to be seen again.

For the rest of his life, Daryl will play ‘what if’ scenarios in his head. Ones where he had been able to keep his emotions in check or even where Negan chose him. Where he doesn’t even close a fist. Maybe even all the way back to venturing out for revenge over Denise. Regret doesn’t keep time.

Daryl will be haunted by actions that took place over the course of seconds for eternity. Almost like a driver that loses the passenger in an accident. Whether it’s the fact that it was Glenn instead of him, or that Glenn’s potential new-born will always remind Daryl of his one-time action. There is no escaping the infinite guilt.

There is no going back for Daryl anymore. No making things right, no chance at redemption. Only going forward and adapting to the circumstances that are the present. The right now. No turning back time on The Walking Dead. Nothing to say, nothing to do that can make things the way they used to be. Just like Negan told Rick “Did you really think you would all grow old and have Sunday dinner? Doesn’t work that way anymore Rick”.

Dwight’s Legacy

Tonight on The Walking Dead, it appears we will get a closer look at what makes Dwight, well Dwight. A 3-dimensional look, 360 degree view of the character. It’s difficult to say whether he’s a complete villain as a savior on the show. His true background will be revealed soon enough.
