A zombie apocalypse will be brutal. To survive, we must ACCEPT IT, and all that comes with it. But, Sunday’s Walking Dead showed just how tough that can be.

A zombie apocalypse will…suck. People will be dying, civilization will crumble, the dead will rise and eat the living, horror, carnage, chaos, and ruthlessness will rule the day. It will suck.

If we want to survive, we have to accept this world as it comes. We can’t pretend it’s not there. We can’t go full ostrich and just dig our heads into the sand. We have to acknowledge that this is the world, now, and learn to deal with it.

Of course, we also have to learn to accept what comes with it, specifically, people. Outside, of course, for the zombies, the biggest change will be people. Long story short: “Civility” will largely disappear and the violent and greedy will attempt to exert themselves on anyone they can.

Which brings us to our Survival Rule Of The Week…

Rule #8: Accept Your Circumstances.

First and foremost, let me say this: Accepting how people have become in a zombie apocalypse won’t be easy. I’m not gonna tell you that it will be, because, that, right there, would be a lie.

However, it needs to be done. You can’t assume everyone around you will be as relatively benign as they are now. People will be striving to survive, and will go any lengths to ensure it. And those who aren’t necessarily worried about survival, will be concerned with exploiting the situation.

You need to accept that for you and anyone you care about to survive, you must prepare to defend yourself against those people. You must do whatever it takes to ensure you survive and not become fodder for thieves, crazies, and killers.

You must accept that the world as you once knew it, is gone, and not coming back. You must accept that fighting to survive, making do with what’s available, and living off of the land is your life now. And you must accept that there can always be threats.

Sometimes, you can repel them or defeat them outright.

Sometimes, you can outsmart, outgun, or outmaneuver them, but, sometimes…you can’t.

It’s not impossible to think that, eventually, you may come across a collection of hostiles too massive to tackle. So long as you can’t match them in terms of numbers, you may have to accept whatever terms they hand you.

Of course, that’s only if you can’t match them. If you can, however? Well, that’s another story entirely.

If you can match a large group of hostiles, then, who’s to say what you have to accept from them? So long as you can fight them, you might be able to force them to accept a few things: Like the fact you won’t take their crap.

In the end, the important thing is that you realize that pretending like the apocalypse isn’t there, is foolish. When you accept the circumstances of the zombie apocalypse and what comes with it, you’ve taken the first step to surviving it.
