The Walking Dead: Who died in episode 7.06 Swear?
Tara encounters danger within the Oceanside community in season 7 episode 6 of The Walking Dead. Did everyone make it out alive?
We finally catch up to Heath and Tara as they near the end of their supply run. Heath is dissatisfied with their meager findings and struggling with the deterioration of humanity. Tara attempts to be more positive and is counting on food promised by Hilltop.
The two encounter an abandoned camp on a bridge. Soon they are surrounded by walkers emerging from a dumped truckload of sand. Heath is encircled and Tara is backed against the bridge railing.
Tara tumbles over the railing into the water and ends up washing ashore a secret community called Oceanside. Aside from young resident Cyndie, no one in the community wants Tara alive. After some creative lies, truths, swift maneuvers, and a little fire power from Cyndie, Tara is able to escape and return to Alexandria.
Sadly, as soon as she returns home, she is met with the news of the loss of Denise, Abraham, and Glenn. Who or what else did we lose in this episode of The Walking Dead?
Oceanside’s men
As Tara scouts out the mysterious Oceanside community, she sees females only, aside from a few young boys. Upon her capture, she learns from resident leaders Natania, Beatrice, and Kathy that all of their men and boys over the age of 10 were killed at the hands of the Saviors.
The Oceanside women learn that Tara has experience with the Saviors as well. This endangers the secrecy of their whereabouts. They believe Tara must be eliminated but tell her they will “help” take her back to the bridge.
Captive Tara
Tara did not die. But Kathy and Beatrice lose Tara as she slips away from them in the woods. Beatrice and Kathy are supposed to be guiding Tara safely back to the bridge, but it turns out to be a rouse. They plan to kill her after all. Tara runs away barely missing their spray of gunfire. Beatrice does catch up to Tara, but thankfully Cyndie comes to Tara’s rescue.
After swearing to Cyndie that she will not reveal the whereabouts or existence of the Oceanside community, Cyndie safely leads Tara to the bridge. Cyndie helps cover Tara as she traverses the bridge battling the sand walkers. Tara makes it to the other side where she sees a suspicious looking walker.
The effective use of red herring walkers
While we do respect the hair game, it’s getting a little harder to be fooled by walkers wearing the same hairdo as characters we believe to be at risk. We spy a walker on the bridge sporting braids similar to Heath’s, but the walker turns out to be a woman, not our favorite bespectacled scavenger.
I fear that this scare technique may be losing its effectiveness. But truth be told, I was briefly concerned that it could have been Heath.
Heath’s glasses
Yep, Heath’s glasses are toast. After Tara makes it to safety at the other end of the bridge she finds Heath’s eyeglasses crushed on the ground. Did Heath meet a similar fate?
I certainly hope not, but we do not know his whereabouts. We do see some tire tracks in the mud. Could these be a sign of a getaway? We can only hope.
Final count, 0
We did not have any confirmed human deaths during the actual confines of The Walking Dead episode 7.06. We learned of the Saviors killing all of the men associated with the women and children now secretly living at Oceanside, but it did not actually occur during this episode. There were indeed close calls for Tara, but she does make it back to Alexandria. Heath is neither confirmed dead nor alive by the episode’s end.
