Jeffrey Dean Morgan talks candy, Negan on The Tonight Show
The Walking Dead’s resident baddie Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on December 1st. Here’s what he had to say.
Who knew Negan had a sweet side? When Jeffrey Dean Morgan, dressed in his trademark leather jacket, showed up on The Tonight Show, he brought host Jimmy Fallon a huge gift basket full of candy. This time, instead of Negan demanding half of your stuff, Negan was the one bringing gifts. A basket of candy, it seems, is much nicer than a barbed-wire baseball bat.
It turns out that Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Paul Rudd co-own a candy store in New York called Samuel’s Sweets. JDM decided that it would be a nice offering for Fallon, who can’t get enough of Negan’s character on The Walking Dead. JDM and Paul Rudd stepped in and bought the candy store two and a half years ago after the store’s owner passed away suddenly. Both actors always loved the store and its owner, and they didn’t want it to close, so they bought it. As it turns out, owning a candy store makes Rudd and JDM’s kids very happy.
JDM shared that he’ll be driving in the local parade in one of his two trucks, either the 1974 Ford or his newer F-150. He gives Fallon lots of grief upon learning that Fallon also has a truck, but Fallon points out that he has some unique uses for his truck.
Jimmy Fallon is blown away to find out that JDM’s farm includes cattle, alpaca, llamas, chickens and ducks. When asked if he’s a “manly man,” JDM replies that that’s what he tells people.

On Negan, JDM agrees that “he’s a bad guy” but he continues to say that “he does it with a sense of humor ad charisma” and that’s why Negan is the bad guy fans love to hate. He talks about how fans are attracted to Negan in varied and unusual way, which always surprises him. He loves the fans, of course, and laughs at how many baseball bats he has seen since taking the role.
