The Atlanta group is still missing a member. What is it going to take to get Carol back with the group and ready to fight Negan and the Saviors?

It’s easy to forget with everything that has happened in The Walking Dead Season 7 so far that Carol doesn’t even know about Glenn and Abe. Carol is already struggling with the weight of the losses that she has been through. And with the moral ambiguity of killing in this world. Will finding out about Glenn and Abe bring her back to the group or push her further away?

Carol’s in a difficult spot right now. She’s a brutally efficient killer. But she doesn’t want to be. She’s trying to hang onto her humanity. Maybe she’s afraid that if she keeps killing it won’t bother her anymore to take a life. Or maybe she’s tired of the pain of losing people.

Either way right now she’s choosing to live like a hermit instead of facing the world. She’s safe by herself. Morgan, King Ezekiel and the people of Kingdom are looking out for her. But eventually she’s not going to be live in continued isolation. Either she will find her fight again, or she’ll slip away from everyone quietly and truly be alone.

Even though she’s telling everyone to leave her alone there are plenty of signs that she’s not ready to cut herself off totally from the people she loves. She stays on the periphery of the Kingdom, but doesn’t leave it totally. When Morgan brought her supplies she called him over to talk with him. When King Ezekiel showed up with Shiva she let him in. Carol may be lying low, but she’s not totally checked out yet.

Staying Distant

For now being at the Kingdom is a tolerable level of isolation for Carol. She respects Morgan and she’s warming up to Ezekiel. But she can’t be around the group right now. In her raw emotional state being close enough to the people she loves to feel the fear of losing them is too much for her. And the pain of knowing about Glenn and Abe will be difficult for her when she finds out.

In The Walking Dead world killing isn’t a choice. It’s survival. Carol knows that, but she can’t come to terms with it emotionally. She’s afraid of how easy it has become for her to kill and she doesn’t want to do it anymore. But she’s not going to be able to avoid it. And staying away from the people she loves isn’t something she will be able to do forever.

Fighting Back

So will Carol return to the group as they join with the other communities to fight Negan? She probably will once she reconnects with Rick and Daryl and finds out what happened to Glenn and Abe. The shock and the pain of that loss may be the thing that jolts her out of her isolation and makes her realize that she must fight.

But, she may never go back to living with Team Family. She is putting out very tiny roots at the Kingdom. Once Negan and the Saviors are taken out it’s possible she will choose to stay at Kingdom rather than return to Alexandria.

Her connection to Daryl, Rick, Maggie and the others is too strong to keep her gone for long though. More than likely she will join the fight against Negan and the Saviors when she sees the group again.

More from Undead Walking

Carol is a true survivor. She knows on some level that the only thing left worth fighting for in The Walking Dead world is family. And in a family even when one member goes off on their own for a bit they always come back if something threatens the family. Odds are that She will fight against Negan with Team Family.
