Michael Rooker explains how The Walking Dead should end
By Adam Carlson
Michael Rooker used to play Merle Dixon on AMC’s The Walking Dead, but he has a theory on how the popular Zombie television series should come to an end.
Merle Dixon was one of the most complicated characters on The Walking Dead. The character was an awful individual, yet fans were able to relate or sympathize with him. Even though he is gone from the show, he remains a memorable fan favorite.
The actor who played Merle is very interactive with his fans. He attends multiple conventions to meet people who loved his character and well as the show, taking time out of his busy filming schedule for hit movies like Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and interesting projects like The Belko Experiment.
At a recent appearance at Walker Stalker Con in Charlotte, the star of movies and television was the focus of a panel. During that panel, he was asked how he thinks The Walking Dead will eventually end.
Rooker’s answer was very specific and was shared on the official Walker Stalker Twitter account:
The idea of The Walking Dead being a story about Carl instead of Rick isn’t new among fans of the show and comics. In fact, Carl represents a lot of the hopes of survival in the future and is considered one of the “untouchables” in both the comics and television show.
Carl being the final survivor of the entire bunch and wandering the world alone is a pretty depressing, yet realistic ending to the series. Optimistically, fans would love to see more of their favorite characters survive when the final credits roll, but there is something very appropriate about this potential ending to Robert Kirkman’s story of the zombie apocalypse.
