Was the first episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: A New Frontier featuring Clementine and Javier any good? Here is a review of ‘Ties That Bind Part 1’.

Fans of the games based on The Walking Dead by Telltale Games have been eagerly awaiting the third installment of the game which is telling the story of Clementine and other survivors in the zombie apocalypse.

Thankfully, a new installment in the series titled A New Frontier was released on December 20, 2016 and explained a lot of what was happening with Clementine since we last saw her as well as what some other survivors were up to.

But the big question, as always, is regarding whether it is a fun game or not. For that, we need to turn our attention to this review, where we will start with some of the technical things that were noticeable.

First of all, There was none of the awful delays or graphics issues that I experienced with the game based on Michonne. While there was a slight delay in the original loading of the different parts of the game, when played it was very smooth and responsive. Otherwise, there is an odd glitch where if you pause the game very often, the dialogue can get stuck on the pause screen and not work when resuming play, freezing the action on the screen.

Next, there was the gameplay. This is the same kind of game as the ones that have made Telltale famous. It’s basically a choose your own adventure game with a few quicktime events to change things up once in a while. Even those with limited hand-eye coordination can succeed.

On to the storyline, which primarily focused on a new character named Javier, who was having some family problems and then got pushed right into the world of the zombie apocalypse. Luckily, Javier is a very likable character and it doesn’t feel forced to enjoy playing as him. There are also a few opportunities to play as a different character, but that also felt right at home.

Once again, Telltale Games was able to take a piece of the story and put a big bow on it to lead into the next Episode of the game. Not only was it rewarding to learn about Javier and help tell his story, but the characters are so unique that you are drawn to them right away.
