Who is the better leader on The Walking Dead: Rick or Negan?

And The Winner Is: Rick

Looking at all the different qualities that a leader has to have it’s clear that Rick is a better leader than Negan. Rick is the stronger leader in 4 of the most important areas that define leadership.

Negan is a strong leader. But he’s not a good leader. His selfishness and cruelty will come back to bite him in the end. Even though he is a smart and capable leader his people don’t love him. They fear him.

Rick’s group of survivors love him, because he loves them. And in The Walking Dead world love and loyalty mean more than strength and control. Ultimately the Atlanta group will triumph because of Rick’s leadership.

Now that Rick has his fight back and the group is uniting again Negan had better watch out. The Saviors are fierce fighters. But the Atlanta survivors are fighting for each other and for the chance to build a thriving community. That is going to make them fight harder and be willing to risk more than the Saviors.

When the other communities pool their resources and rise up against Negan’s dictatorship Negan will realize that he’s vulnerable. He may have been able to keep each individual community under control. But when they band together they will be a force to be reckoned with. He’s going to find out that Rick is a stronger leader than he thinks. And that Rick is a stronger leader than he is.
