2017 has arrived and it’s time to think about New Year resolutions for 2017 and Season 7B of The Walking Dead. What should make Aaron’s list of New Year resolutions?

Aaron has showed a lot of mettle, and he is a valued member of Rick’s team. He survived the Walker Lake excursion in the midseason finale and he took a beating from Negan’s men with a stiff upper lip, telling Rick that his heart was still beating so that means he’s ok.

With a major battle on the horizon, Aaron will be an important piece in the fight against the Saviors. Alexandria is Aaron’s home, which is reason enough for him to want to protect it. There’s also Aaron’s experience with the area. He was an experienced scout and recruiter who knows a lot about the area, and having someone familiar with the geography will be essential. Aaron has a lot to fight for on a personal level, too, because he has his boyfriend to think about.

Aaron has a lot invested in this battle with Negan. So let’s look at what Aaron should be thinking about in his New Year resolutions for the second half of Season 7.

Experience is Key

Aaron is the only person left from Alexandria who knows the area well enough. The other residents didn’t go out on runs or recruiting trips as much as he did, so Aaron will be helpful when it comes to planning.

Aaron can be a great lieutenant for Rick during this battle. He respects Rick’s authority and he understands the dangers of the situation. He understands the way the world works and he knows that things aren’t always cut and dry. While Morgan might balk at having to kill someone, Aaron understands that it’s kill or be killed.

The other members of the Alexandria community don’t have the same fighting skills Aaron has, and this will make a huge difference when it comes to organizing and going into battle.

Don’t Back Down

As we already mentioned, Aaron took a beating in the midseason finale when the Saviors discovered the note from the cabin in the supplies, believing the middle finger salute to be meant for them. Aaron didn’t bother trying to make excuses; rather he took the beating while Rick watched helplessly.

Aaron is tough, and that kind of mental toughness is key when it comes to facing the Saviors. It made them angry that he didn’t try to fight back. They get off on reactions, and Aaron didn’t give them the satisfaction of reacting to his beating.

The bottom line is that the battle against the Saviors won’t be pretty and Rick will need all the support he can get. Fortunately, Rick has in Aaron a trusted friend and comrade who can be counted upon when times get rough. These are the kinds of people Rick needs in his inner circle right now.
