The Walking Dead fan speculation: “If I’d been there…”
Fans of The Walking Dead universe always love to talk about what they would have done differently if they’d been plopped in the middle of the show.
“If that had been me, I would have….”
“If I’d been there, I would have…”
You hear those phrases all the time. Family, friends, coworkers, and total strangers have a habit of saying them about every conceivable situation, and it usually goes that the person saying it has a really good reason for it. Namely, that they would have done something better than what actually happened.
The Walking Dead is a show about life after the apocalypse. Specifically, it’s the zombie apocalypse, whereupon survival is tantamount and the methods of survival don’t matter so long as you stay alive because there are undead creatures chasing you and trying to eat you. Fear the Walking Dead has similar themes but it follows a group of people who are at the cusp of the apocalypse.
As fans of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead watch the shows, it’s interesting how many people swear that they would have better reactions if they’d been in the same situations as the characters, even though we have no idea what life would be like if civilization fell apart.
While we don’t know what we’d actually do in an apocalypse, it does make for some interesting conversation. There are certainly things that have happened over the past several seasons of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead where viewers believe they might have had different reactions if they’d been faced with similar experiences.
Looking back, are there things you might have done differently? I know that for me, personally, I’d like to think I’d have seen the signs of the apocalypse a lot sooner than Madison and Travis. As a Southern Californian, it wouldn’t have taken me as long as it took them to know that things were going to hell quickly. However, there’s an argument to be made as to why it took them as long as it did to accept.
