Fans knew Austin Nichols as Spencer on The Walking Dead, but soon they will be able to see him in season 5 of the Psycho prequel series Bates Motel on A&E .

The Walking Dead has been a great vehicle for many actors. Not only has it led to more television acting opportunities for established names, but AMC’s zombie survival drama has helped to get lesser known talents more exposure.

Fans who enjoyed the work of Austin Nichols as Spencer Monroe won’t have to wait long to see him in another creepy program. Deadline has announced that Nichols will be joining the cast of Bates Motel for season 5.

For those unfamiliar, Bates Motel is a series on A&E that tells the story of what happened before the events of the classic Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho. It features a younger version of Norman Bates with his mother attempting to run the hotel and deal with all the drama surrounding its location.

Austin Nichols will play the role of Sam Loomis in Bates Motel. Here is how the character is described by Deadline:

"“Nichols will play Sam Loomis, a mysterious and charismatic newcomer to White Pine Bay who quickly antagonizes Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) when he tries to involve the Bates Motel’s owner in his web of lies.”"

Nichols is no stranger to television, with past roles on other great programs like Ray DonovanOne Tree Hill, and Friday Night Lights. His fantastic work on The Walking Dead should continue to open doors for the actor and hopefully give him bigger and brighter roles going forward.
