In the latest teaser for the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, two main characters have been reunited with some weaponry.

When Daryl returned Rick’s gun to him during the Season 7 midseason finale, it was a very symbolic move. Not only was Rick being reunited with his gun, but it signified that it’s time to fight. The gang has been reunited (well, except for poor Eugene) and the time has come for the group to rise up and fight back against Negan.

The latest teaser for the midseason premiere gives us a look at two other members of the group who have been reunited with weapons. Daryl has his crossbow, and Carol has a gun. This is a really big deal for a lot of reasons.

Daryl’s crossbow has practically been an extension of his arm for years. It’s his trademark weapon, and when Dwight took it from him, it was a major blow. Getting it back means that he either took it back, or perhaps someone gave it back to him. If he took it back, does that mean he went to the Sanctuary, or that someone (probably Dwight) from the Sanctuary arrived at the Hilltop? Or could it be that someone switched sides and brought the weapon back to him?

Seeing Carol holding a gun is another intriguing bit of information. Obviously the context of why she has a gun is a huge piece of the puzzle, but what’s more is that we know that Carol is a versatile fighter who can make use of any weapon she has access to. Aside from blowing up Terminus, she’s more of the stealthy type, so the choice of a gun becomes even more interesting because it could mean that she either chose a gun or needed it in the moment.

More from Undead Walking

There’s no question that a fight is looming large in the second half of the season. There’s no question that having Daryl and Carol back in the fight will make a huge difference.
