Greg Nicotero previews the Season 7 midseason premiere of The Walking Dead with an Instagram post hinting at a major Walker sequence.

At this point everyone seems to agree that a big fight is coming on The Walking Dead, but before we get to the battle royale it seems that we have another epic fight coming. Greg Nicotero, executive producer, FX guru and director of the midseason premiere, teased fans with an image of Walkers from the comics on his Instagram account.

According to Nicotero, The Walking Dead fans can look forward to “one hell of a bad ass walker sequence” in the midseason premiere episode “Rock in the Road.” He’ll also appear on Talking Dead this week to talk about the show and where things are going in the second half of the season.

Season 7 of The Walking Dead has been laying a foundation for the back end of the season. The gang has been reunited and by all accounts Rick Grimes has his fight back. It’s time to lead the battle against Negan and the Saviors, but if you stop and think about it, we haven’t seen many Walkers this season. It’s high time we see a nice herd moving through.

While it’s nothing more than speculation, it’s quite possible that an enormous herd of Walkers is the “rock” in the “road” as referenced in the title of the episode. Or perhaps a new herd has arrived and the battle will have to take second fiddle to clearing the road.

With less than a week before the midseason premiere, there is much to look forward to. It’s nice knowing that we’ll have Greg Nicotero on board to take us through the episode after it airs because it’s going to be a doozy. (Technical term, that. Doozy)

The Walking Dead returns on February 12th.
