Friends in low places: The Walking Dead 709 ‘Rock in the Road’ review
By Adam Carlson
Overall Impression
‘Rock in the Road’ did exactly what The Walking Dead needed it to do. It delivered an episode where banding together was the focus while stories involving individual characters were developed to keep balance to the narrative.

The entire episode was solid, with the exception of the scene involving the explosives on the wire. It would have been great for there to be better development of the character talents before this scene, but it was still intense and gave one of the best walker death scenes yet.
Perhaps the best part of the episode was the development of Benjamin. While he was training under Morgan, he seemed like a bit player in the story. Now, he’s stepping up to be an individual who could make an impact in bringing The Kingdom to the fight against Negan.
The extended time for this episode was absolutely necessary. Every detail of this episode was important in keeping the story moving and it was great to get an extra taste of the undead in this great midseason premiere.
