#1: Why was Rick smiling?

Usually The Walking Dead surprises us with the answers to our questions. This time, most of us were pretty good at guessing the answer to this question going into the episode. Rick was smiling because he saw the potential of numbers and weapons in this group that held them hostage.

He didn’t know what would happen next, but he was pretty confident that they could figure things out with this group and maybe have them join the fight against Negan and the Saviors. It turns out we were all right.

After negotiations, explaining about Negan, fighting a really cool walker, and standing on top of trash mountain with some really weird Cecil B. Demille, up, up, up CGI, Rick shook hands with the leader of the group.

According to Rick, the official explanation for his smile was that thinking about Father Gabriel reminded him that enemies can become friends. Rick even found a nice cat to replace the gorgeous one that Michonne lost from the excursion with Carl to get Lori’s picture-another occasion where enemies became friends.  Worth a smile!
