Rick Grimes proves he’s the best boyfriend on The Walking Dead

Rick successfully fought off Winslow, cemented an alliance with The Scavengers, and still managed to grab a gift for Michonne in The Walking Dead “New Best Friends”. That pretty much guarantees he is the best boyfriend ever.
“New Best Friends” was a tough episode of The Walking Dead for Rick. He had to save Father Gabriel, fight off Winslow, then negotiate with Jadis to get The Scavengers on board to go to war against The Saviors.
And he managed to do it all, although he was bloody and battered after his brutal fight with Winslow the spiked walker. Still he was thinking about his girl though. As the survivors were leaving he grabbed a metal cat statue for Michonne. He told her the statue was to replace the cat statue he lost when The Governor attacked the prison and they all had to flee.
It was a sweet gesture that makes fans love the relationship between Rick and Michonne even more. But it also was a call back to the very beginning of the great relationship between Rick and Michonne.
When Michonne first showed up at the prison in Season 3 Rick wasn’t sure they could trust her. It was the events of the “Clear” episode in season 3 where Michonne acquired her previous cat statue that made Rick accept Michonne as part of the group.
The Importance Of Michonne’s Cat
“Clear” was the episode where Rick found Morgan again. At that time Morgan was in a bad place emotionally. He had a big stockpile of weapons though and Rick and the group needed them. While Rick was trying to bring Morgan back to his right mind Carl went off looking for a crib for baby Judith. Michonne went with him even though he didn’t want her to.
Carl tried to ditch Michonne and sneak into a bar to retrieve a photo of Lori, Rick and Carl. He wanted Judith to have a photo of Lori because she would never know the mother who died for her.
The bar was filled with walkers. But after some tense moments and a couple of attempts Carl got the photo. And Michonne took a cat statue that she liked. As they were preparing to head back to the prison Carl told Rick that Michonne was one of them and belonged with the group.
Rick relaxed his guard a little and trusted Carl’s assessment of Michonne. He started to be a little more open to her. After that episode Carl and Michonne had a special bond. That was also the start of the deep respect and friendship that Rick and Michonne share.

So Rick remembering Michonne’s cat statue and grabbing the metal cat statue for her proves that not only is a great leader in The Walking Dead he’s a pretty great boyfriend too.
