In this week’s The Walking Dead fans see the fallout at Sanctuary as Negan discovers that both Daryl and Sherry are gone. Will Sherry run to another community to have a shot at staying alive? Would another community take her in?

In “Hostiles And Calamities”, The Walking Dead’s 11th episode of season 7, Negan returns to The Sanctuary with Eugene after his latest trip to Alexandria where he killed Spencer and had Arat kill Olivia. He returns just as Dwight realizes that Daryl is gone. He finds the note that says, “Go Now” in Daryl’s cell and he knows Sherry wrote it. Negan confirms that Sherry is gone too.

Sherry returned to the house that she and Dwight lived in before the apocalypse. Dwight goes there looking for her on orders from Negan. Sherrry leaves an emotional letter for Dwight reminding him of what life was like before the world fell apart and before they found Negan and The Sanctuary.

In the letter Sherry says that she let Daryl go because Daryl is a reminder of the kind of man that Dwight was before the apocalypse. She thought that was too much for Dwight to take. She wanted to let him forget the world before and just live in the present.

At another point in the letter she tells Dwight that she married Negan to save Dwight’s life but living under Negan’s thumb is worse than being dead. Sherry says in her letter that she doesn’t know if Dwight would drag her back to Negan, run away with her, or kill her. So she took off. Dwight is devastated. He tells Negan that Sherry is dead. But is she?

Sherry’s Chances of Survival

Sherry’s been outside the safety of The Sanctuary before. When Sherry, Tina and Dwight met Daryl they were running from The Saviors. They did show that they had some basic survival skills. But Sherry on her own doesn’t have very good odds of surviving. She may not even really want to survive at this point. She’s lost her husband by trading her life to Negan to keep Dwight alive. Her sister is gone. It doesn’t look like Sherry has much to live for at this point.

But if she had just wanted to die she could killed herself without setting Daryl free or running away from Negan. So it appears that Sherry really does want to live. Alone and without a lot of supplies her best chances of surviving are with another community. Will she take the risk of approaching another community to take her in?

Would Another Community Take Her?

If another community takes Sherry in they would be putting the whole community at risk. If Negan were to discover a runway wife hiding out in another community the consequences for that community would be dire. It’s a safe bet that Gregory at The Hilltop wouldn’t want to take that risk. Maggie might be willing to take that risk and take her in at The Hilltop though. King Ezekiel also might be willing to take her in.

The main reason why a community would be willing to take that risk would be the information that Sherry has. Sherry knows a lot about Negan’s operation. Not only can she tell them more about how many Saviors there are and how well armed they are she knows Negan very well. Getting some insight into how his mind works could help the survivors come up with a battle plan.

If Sherry really wants to survive and approaches one of the other The Walking Dead communities there’s a good chance she could make it through the war. And if Dwight decides to turn on Negan she and Dwight might get the chance to be together again.
