The live views for The Walking Dead’s bottle episode “Say Yes” were consistent with other bottle episodes. But “Hostiles and Calamities” gained more than 5 million views in extended viewing.

The ratings for bottle episodes of The Walking Dead are usually lower than the ratings for other episodes. In season 7A the bottle episode “Swear” got only 10.4 million live views. “Swear” did get several million more views in extended Live+3 and Live+7 views.

This week’s bottle episode “Say Yes” stayed consistent with other bottle episodes. It had just over 10 million live views. Based on the pattern of ratings jumping after Live+3 and Live+7 views are counted it’s safe to assume that “Say Yes” will end up with between 12-14 million views like every other episode of The Walking Dead has gotten this season.

“Hostiles And Calamities”, which focused on Eugene, Negan and The Sanctuary had a whopping 50% increase in Live+7 views. It gained more than 5 million views in extended views to finish with over 15 million total views. That means “Hostiles And Calamities” is one of the highest rated episodes of season 7. That’s not really surprising considering how many people are curious about what life is like inside The Sanctuary.

As The Walking Dead season 7 starts to ramp up toward the opening of All Out War ratings should continue to rise. The alarm calls from critics that the show is failing due to low live numbers have been increasing. But as usual the critics are wrong. Extended views put the show’s ratings at the highest they’ve ever been. The Walking Dead is still far and away the number one show on cable TV.

All Out War

Critics who say that Negan and The Saviors are ruining the show and causing the falling ratings are going to be in for a surprise when All Out War begins. Even if Negan and The Saviors are defeated that doesn’t mean Negan’s influence won’t still be felt in the show. Like it or not Negan is now a permanent part of The Walking Dead story.

The arrival of Negan, the deaths of Glenn and Abe, and the discovery of so many new communities are integral to the evolution of the show. Now the group isn’t wandering around in the back woods of Georgia anymore. They’re finding communities and figuring out how to rebuild a functioning society.

More from Undead Walking

There are always people who complain when The Walking Dead goes through growing pains. Some people always swear they’re going to stop watching. But the numbers prove that more people than ever are watching The Walking Dead. And that isn’t going to stop anytime soon.
