Jayson Warner Smith on Gavin

Things certainly come to a breaking point for Savior outpost leader Gavin (played by Jayson Warner Smith) in episode 7.13 of The Walking Dead. He has been warning Ezekiel over and over not to make things get “visceral”.

Jayson’s portrayal reveals that Gavin is not crazy about his job and does not relish the violence. In fact he had this to share about Gavin in our recent interview:

"“What I like about my character is that Gavin doesn’t like it, he’s like the nicest Savior, but then [in contrast] I’m stuck with Jared!” – Jayson Warner Smith on his character Gavin"

But things come to a head when Richard manipulates their drop, making Ezekiel’s latest offering both late and short. Gavin cannot allow another infraction to go unpunished.

When Jared shoots Benjamin instead of Richard, the viewers are stunned and Gavin is clearly unsettled as well. He directs Ezekiel to “patch [Benjamin] up”. When Gavin learns the next day that Benjamin does not survive the gunshot wound, his emotions escalate even further.

I asked Jayson to talk about the multitude of emotions Gavin experienced in the episode and he shared the following insights in this audio clip.
