As mentioned before, Richard has proven to be a very capable fighter. He was very passionate about everything he did and could have used that fire to combat The Saviors and help the survivors win the war.

But perhaps the biggest loss in this episode was Benjamin, who was doing everything he could to learn how to fight. He wanted to use those skills to protect his little brother and even had a romantic interest that was being teased.

Benjamin also represented the future in many ways. His youth, determination, and positive mindset were a joy every time he was on the screen. In essence, he is likely to The Hilltop what Carl is Alexandria.

Yes, both would have been good soldiers in the war against Negan and The Saviors, but fans will never get to see that happen now. However, it will be interesting to see how their fates impact the events of The Kingdom in the future.
