18. Walker Merle

The next walker kill on the list also comes from “This Sorrowful Life”.  Walker Merle was a brutal kill both physically and emotionally. Physically Merle is not a small person and he has a razor sharp blade for a hand. That makes walker Merle a pretty serious threat.

But it was really the emotional impact of this kill that put it on the list. After losing Merle in season 1 when Merle cut off his hand to escape the handcuffs Rick put on him on the rooftop Daryl managed to find him again. And then lost him again just a few episodes later.

And to make it even more emotionally brutal he had to be the one to put walker Merle down. Daryl’s fangirls still haven’t stopped crying about the emotional moment when Daryl discovered walker Merle chomping on some of The Governor’s men.

At least this time when he lost Merle Daryl got some closure. And it made it easier for Daryl because he didn’t have to choose between staying with Rick and the people he had grown to love or going off with Merle out of a sense of duty to his brother.

Merle will always be infamous in The Walking Dead world both for his life and his death.
