27. Walker Amy

In “Wildfire” the Atlanta group loses some of their members to a walker attack. No one really cares about losing Ed Peletier. But Andrea’s sister Amy dies from a walker bite. Andrea sits with Amy’s dead body waiting for her to turn. She won’t let anyone else near Amy. She wants to be the one to kill Amy when she turns.

After a few hours Amy reanimates. Andrea puts off killing her, trying to find some trace of her sister in the walker’s face. But as walker Amy tries to kill her Andrea know what she has to do. She shoots Amy in the head.

This was the first time that viewers saw a human turn into a walker. It was emotionally brutal to see an established character die in a violent way then turn. And it was brutal to watch Andrea grieve for her sister then have to kill her. This was the first time that the reality of the world that the survivors have to live in was made real for the viewers.

Amy isn’t the only character to turn, but she was the first and that makes her death and turning one of the most brutal walker kills in the show’s history.
