“You can go and not go.” ~Carol

I love a great callback! Carol helped Morgan to not completely be alone and go into his clear mode (that she never actually witnessed), by allowing him to stay in her house. He can not be part of the Kingdom’s fight necessarily and can work things out on his own, but he can be where she can still find him and let him know that she cares about him.

More from Undead Walking

Morgan was the one who brought Carol back from her “Clear” phase. She could have gone down the same path as Morgan into indiscriminate killing and burying her grief in lashing out. She could have even become a Negan if she became cold. But Carol always had emotion. The killing always bothered her even if she didn’t let herself think it did.

Morgan helped her see that. He told her she didn’t like it. Morgan and Carol both lost children. They both felt helpless. They both have been trying to save as many people as they can ever since. They both needed to save themselves eventually after killing people caught up with them.

Carol’s line to Morgan had an extra meaning to us, the audience. When Ezekiel told Carol she could go and not go, she asked him why he cared. He told her it made him feel good. We can infer that same thing with Carol and with us. It makes her feel good that he is there. And it makes us feel good, too.
