Jesus made a quiet statement, Rosita and Sasha went on a fool’s run and there were lots of tears March 19 on The Walking Dead.

We’ve come a long way in terms of acceptance, but even in 2017 a major character confirming their sexuality is a big thing. It shouldn’t be such a big deal and the way The Walking Dead handled it was subdued.

Jesus quietly gave a nod to his sexuality in an early-show conversation with Maggie. He ended a stream of thoughts with “and boyfriends,” to which Maggie smiled.

The revelation was more for viewers than other characters. It was obvious by Maggie’s reaction that Jesus being gay isn’t breaking news. Viewers perhaps suspected it and the good news is we can move on and not dwell on something so trivial.

More from Undead Walking

Some viewers might have a problem with another gay character. However,The Walking Dead isn’t overt with it and anyone offended by such matters should really figure out something else to worry about.

Jesus also offered to help Sasha and took steps toward becoming a leader at The Hilltop. He had a tense conversation with Gregory, who remains the weakest of all the leaders, and took some words as a “threat.”

It’s far past time for Jesus to officially become Maggie’s right-hand man. Gregory isn’t long for this world and we’ll see the duo on top next season.

Honorable mentions: Simon and his gift of gab (for real, ice cream isn’t a tough sell), Sasha, who sacrificed herself in the plan to kill Negan and Enid, who was mature and did well with a creeper.
