Change is in the air following Fear the Walking Dead season 3 as the showrunner departs for other AMC projects.

On Friday AMC announced that Dave Erickson, the Fear the Walking Dead executive producer who developed and launched The Walking Dead’s little sister, is leaving the show at the end of the third season.

Erickson isn’t going far from Fear the Walking Dead, though. He’ll be working to develop new shows for AMC in a multiyear deal that will allow him to focus on the development of new properties for AMC and its family of networks. Erickson is known for his work on Marco Polo, Low Winter Sun and Sons of Anarchy. His experience with those shows, in addition to his work with Fear, will no doubt give him a great deal of inspiration for the next big show on AMC.

Season three of Fear the Walking Dead isn’t complete yet, but Erickson will remain on to complete the season before moving on to his new role:

"“I have truly enjoyed working with the writers and directors, cast and crew on Fear and am so proud of what we have accomplished over our first two seasons. I look forward to finishing work on season three, sharing it with the fans and developing new projects with my partners at AMC.”"

Erickson developed Fear the Walking Dead with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, and while his new role with AMC will take him away from the show he’ll still get credit as an executive producer, so this isn’t exactly a “goodbye” so much as a “see you later.”
