There’s only one episode left after tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead. Let’s break down everything that happened in tonight’s episode “Something They Need.”

There’s a Walker on the beach. Tara narrates the story of what they can expect to find at Oceanside. She says they have guns, and he wants to know why it took so long for her to tell him. “I made a promise, Rick.” Daryl rides alongside the RV, while Father Gabriel follows in the car behind them. They’re getting ready to make the journey to Oceanside. She’s worried that things will go horribly wrong since she betrayed Cyndie’s trust, but Rick assures her that she did the right thing.

Maggie explains that the garden needs to be covered with a tarp in order to preserve the heat. Eduardo appreciate her knowledge. She’s going to plant a blueberry bush. As she’s giving orders, Gregory watches from the sidelines. Maggie knows he’s up to something.

Rick helps Michonne into a tree. She asks when the clock starts, and it’s as soon as “she’s” in. Jesus and Daryl lay down a path of explosives while Aaron and Eric discuss the fact that they finally are working together. Eric admits that this is better than having to watch Aaron get hurt.

Jesus tells Daryl he’s sorry for letting Sasha and Rosita get away. Daryl says the women can protect themselves.

Sasha is in a cell at the Sanctuary. David comes in and tells her that he’s the guy who gave the rope to the guys who tied her up. He talks about using rope for all manner of fun things. She wants water, and he wants her to beg him for it. He rips open her shirt, and she knocks him in the face with her forehead. He likes the idea of her fighting. That’s when Negan comes in and says that he sees David trying to rape Sasha. Rape is against the rules at the Sanctuary, and Negan would never let rape happen on his watch. He crossed the line. Negan slides a knife through his throat, telling him he doesn’t accept his apology. He orders one of the men to get Sasha a new shirt.

Negan apologizes to Sasha about the shirt and the rope. But they have to be careful with someone who caused so much trouble. That’s when Negan recognizes her from the lineup. She had giant beach ball sized “lady nuts.” He wants to know if Rick put her up to this. Negan offers her the knife and says it’s her knife now. She can try to kill Negan, or she can try to kill herself. She can use the knife to make sure Rapey Davey doesn’t come back to life. Negan is short a man, and he wants Sasha to help him run the Sanctuary. He knows that is a long shot given what he did, but he says they all have to get over what happened. He’s ok with whatever she decides. He apologizes again for having to see what David did. “We are not monsters,” Negan says, and then he leaves, locking the door behind him.

The cell opens later and Eugene walks in with a pillow, blankets and water for her. She wants to know what they did to him, and he says they’re keeping him safe. He says the pillow is not hypoallergenic. He wasn’t sure if he should come in or not. He talked to Negan about the deal he offered her. Eugene says that they thought he could be brave, but he was never as scared in his life as he was in the woods. Seeing what happened to Abraham, someone who was strong and brave, destroyed him. Being at the Sanctuary means he will always be safe. He asks her to be safe and agree. He thinks Abraham would want her to, or maybe not, but that’s what he wants. Things change, and they have to change, too. “Go,” she whispers. David is about to turn, and she asks him to leave again. Eugene leaves, and David’s fingers start to move.

Gregory approaches Maggie outside the walls of the Hilltop. She’s planting blueberries, and he wants to talk. He wonders where her friends are. “They’re looking for something they need,” she says. He wants to know why she’s still there with Carson gone, and she thought he was going to get him back. He says that he should be more open. She says it’s never too late to change, and she’ll happily come by to talk later if he’s serious. She asks him to keep an eye out while she finishes planting the berries. He takes his knife out and watches her when her back is turned to him. He approaches, then he turns away. He’s conflicted. A Walker approaches and she offers to get it because he doesn’t need the pregnant lady to protect him. He says he has killed one before, but when he gets up close he loses his nerve. Suddenly a Walker attacks him from behind and he falls to the ground. He calls to her for help, and the Hilltoppers walk by and see that he had chickened out. “He’s learning,” she says. “That’s not what he told us,” they call back,

Oceanside is fully operational as usual. Rachel has caught a fish and Tanya is happy to see that. Tanya goes inside and Tara is there with a gun. Cyndie comes in and says “you promised.” Tara says that Rick and her friends are going to take their guns, and they’re going to fight the Saviors because they have taken everything. Tanya says the Saviors will win. Tara says that they’re not just going to hide, they’re going to fight. Tanya says if they take the guns they might as well be killing them. However, time’s up, and soon there is an explosion outside.

Michonne is in the tree keeping people from running away. Jesus and Daryl come rushing in and make everyone stand down.

Tara says they could have stopped all of this. Tonya grabs her gun and Tara falls to the ground. Her gun wasn’t loaded. Father Gabriel tells the frightened women that they’re not going to hurt anyone. Tanya comes up with a gun to Tara’s head, and Rick says they can work together. Tara tells the women that they are going to win, with or without their help. Nothing changes if Tara dies. Cyndie tells Tanya that they should try. Beatrice thinks it’s a good idea. The women want to give it a shot, but Tanya says that they’re not going to do it.

Michonne spots Walkers coming, so Cyndie knocks Tanya out and the women fall into formation with Rick. They fight together, side by side. When it’s over, Rick shakes hands with Beatrice. Tanya says they aren’t fighting the Saviors, and she wants Rick to take the guns and go. But the women want to fight.

The cell door opens and Negan walks in. He frowns, then he smiles. There’s a knife in David’s head. “You win,” Sasha says. “No, you win,” he tells her. He takes the knife but doesn’t let her keep it. He still needs to ensure her trust. He says it’s not personal, because she wouldn’t trust him either. It’s all a good start though. Negan has heard that Rick is up to no good, and he wants her to help him find a way to make this all right. He’s going to get her comfortable because the next day is going to be a big one.

Gregory looks in the mirror and sees that he is covered in blood. He pulls out a map of Virginia and pours himself a drink. He calls for Cal and says he needs to be driven somewhere.

Eugene knocks on Sasha’s door. He has heard that she’s in with their plan. She says she was wrong and she doesn’t know how to accept that she’s there with the people who hurt them. Eugene says he can help her settle in with the system. She needs a knife or gun, and she’s going to end her life so Negan can’t use her to hurt their people. She starts crying, asking him for something to help end her life. He says he’ll consider it.

Inside the cell, Sasha smiles. She’s not crying. She’s playing him.

Jesus loads up weapons as Cyndie and Beatrice watch him. Father Gabriel keeps watch and asks Rick if they need to take all of their weapons. Rick says they do.

Carl continues his conversation with Enid from the beginning of the episode, saying he thinks about the people he killed and the ones he didn’t kill.

Tara says that they will bring the guns back. Cyndie tells her that she wants to go with them but since they’re not all going, they need to stay behind. Cyndie thanks them for what they’re doing. Tara thanks her for saving her life again and again. As they walk away, Rachel asks if they’re leaving any guns for them. Tara flips her off and smiles, telling Rick that he was right and she doesn’t have to feel bad about what they’re doing.

Sasha paces her cell. She has a full plate of food. Eugene pounds on the door and he says that he will grant her request. He slides her a pill, one of the poison pills he made for Negan’s wives. He says he knows he owes her for things she has done for him. He doesn’t want her to go, but she’s already gone.

Sasha hadn’t considered that he’d bring her a pill. She looks tormented.

The RV and cars pull up. Rosita is there, and she takes them to Morgan’s jail cell. It’s Dwight. He was the shadowy figure outside the Sanctuary. Daryl flies into a rage but Rosita says he wants to help them. Rick asks if it’s true and Dwight says it is. “Okay,” Rick says. He points his gun at Dwight and tells him to get on his knees.

Stay tuned. Next week’s season finale is going to be a big one!
