The Walking Dead cast discussed the Season 7 Finale at Paleyfest in Los Angeles with the folks over at Access Hollywood! Here’s the transcript.

Access Hollywood: What was your reaction when you read the finale script for this season?

Ross Marquand (Aaron): It’s a dark script, and I think that’s exciting because you know… We’ve dealt with a lot of dark material this season, of course. Especially the season premiere, and I’m very excited to see where the show goes after this. It’s exceptionally action packed, and a lot of incredibly terrifying things happen. I think that will be exciting for the fans to watch.

AH: Give us a little teaser for the finale!

Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene): It’s going to be scary, dangerous, and maybe a little hopeful. A little—Walking Dead hopeful. Yeah, it’s like its own definition of the word.

AH: Give us a little teaser of what we’re gonna get at the finale, are you guys taking on Negan finally?

Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes): Well you know, we’re building is what I’m gonna say. What I will say is that the final episode of this season has been my favorite, without a doubt.

AH: Give us a little teaser of what we’re going to get, we’re hoping it’s the big fight that we’ve all been waiting for. Any chance of that?

Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead Creator) and David Alpert (Producer): She wants a spoiler, do you have a spoiler for her (to Kirkman)?

Kirkman: Look, it would be very odd for us to have a season finale that doesn’t have some kind of monumental conflict. We have been building Rick’s reemergence as a leader and the conflict with Negan. It’s entirely possible that those two will interact in some kind of cool way in the finale, but you know, I’m not gonna spoil any of that.

Alpert: I also think that we’re gonna hit a very different emotional palette. There’s gonna be all the things you expect from The Walking Dead but I think it’s gonna touch parts of you that you didn’t know that we’re going for.

AH: Tell us about reading the finale script.

Alanna Masterson (Tara): I was shocked to say the least. I think everyone is gonna be pretty shocked and surprised when they see it.

AH: Give us your reaction to reading the finale script.

Melissa McBride (Carol): Really? That was my reaction, really? Wow, okay, this is different. This is different! I like this finale.

Josh McDermitt (Eugene Porter): It’s gonna be insanely epic. You know I can’t say anything! It’s just going to be huge. We’re marching towards something that I feel everyone knows is coming. You know, I can’t say anything. I’m excited about it, I’m afraid of slipping up and spoiling something. I’ve spoiled too many things with you.

AH: Are we finally gonna take on Negan in the finale?

Greg Nicotero: Well, you know that’s what we’re building towards. I love that everywhere that Rick looks, he sees a solider and he sees his army grow. So, we’ll see.

AH: We are very close to the season finale, I heard we will get an ending. What can you tell us about that, will we actually get an ending and not a cliffhanger?

Tom Payne (Paul ‘Jesus’ Rovia): Oh, yeah I mean I don’t think they’ll ever do something quite as climatic as the last season. There is a resolve of sorts as there has to be at the end of a season. There’s really exciting moments.

There’s really heartbreaking moments. It’s all together in one script. You read it and as actors it’s really exciting for us to read and go ‘Oh My God! I can’t wait to put this on film and for the audience to see it. I can’t wait to see the reaction videos online afterwards. There’s going to be some good ones because we were reacting reading it. So, I can’t wait until people see it on screen.
