Chris Hardwick is bringing science to primetime with a new NBC show
By Sonya Iryna
Chris Hardwick will be hosting another new show in addition to Talking With Chris Hardwick. He will also host The Awesome Show a science based show for NBC.
The Internet’s favorite Talking Dead therapist Chris Hardwick is going to be very busy during The Walking Dead’s hiatus. Recently AMC announced that Hardwick would be hosting his own talk show airing during The Walking Dead’s offseason called Talking With Chris Hardwick.
Today NBC announced that Chris will hosting a new primetime show for the network called The Awesome Show. The show was picked up for an initial run of six episodes. Hardwick will also serve as Executive Producer of the series.
The Awesome Show will focus on science and technology achievements and advancements throughout history as well as current advances and discoveries. It’s unusual for a network like NBC to take a chance on a science show but there’s no one better to make science fun and appealing to a network audience.
Talking about the importance of encouraging an interest in STEM Hardwick said:
"“The opportunity to develop a primetime show that celebrates science and technology was too good to pass up. I started Nerdist 10 years ago as a tech news site. I was a contributor to Wired magazine for several years and hosted ‘Wired Science’ on PBS. It is very important to me to make something that positively promotes these topics in order to share humanity’s triumphs, to instill hope for our future and to inspire the next generation of young thinkers.”"

Science On TV
Cable networks like Discovery and of course The Science Channel have been champions of science based programming for a long time. But STEM focused programming has been absent from network channels. Hopefully The Awesome Show will bridge the gap between the kind of high quality science based programming that cable networks have had for years and the big 3 broadcast networks.
Encouraging kids to develop interests in science, math and technology is important. Recently in a ranking of 34 industrialized countries the US ranked a dismal 27th in math. And the US was 20th in science according to STEM blog TechRocket.

There is no premiere date yet for The Awesome Show. But Talking With Chris Hardwick debuts this Sunday, April 9th at 11 PM. Never fear TWD fans, when The Walking Dead season 8 airs Talking Dead will be back as usual.
