The Walking Dead: About that moment between Rick and Jadis
Andrew Lincoln confirms that filming that one scene between Rick and Jadis in The Walking Dead’s season finale was as funny as we all imagine it to be.
The Walking Dead isn’t a funny show, and its moments of levity are few and far between. Despite the tension in the season 7 finale, there were a few moments that gave fans a chuckle, but nothing came close to that awkward moment when Jadis expresses her interest in Rick.
We now know that the Scavengers have zero loyalty, but just because Jadis is about to turn on (and shoot) Rick doesn’t mean she can’t let him know that she’d like a night alone with him.
Before the battle begins, Jadis makes her interest known, asking if she can lie with Rick after the battle. And Michonne is right there to see it. The best part of this awkward moment is watching how Rick and Michonne struggle not to laugh at her request while Jadis stands there as if it’s the most normal request in the world. The noise Rick makes says it all.
Andrew Lincoln confirmed in an interview with Variety that filming that scene was a huge challenge:
"I wasn’t supposed to articulate that noise but I couldn’t help myself. It was this funny, silly sort of moment. We did it so many times and it got funnier and more ridiculous each time. The way [Pollyanna McIntosh] did it was brilliant."
Jadis and her strange, and strangely timed, request are yet another example of how weird the Scavengers are. Jadis knew at that moment that Negan was going to arrive, and that the Scavengers were going to turn on Rick and Alexandria, and yet she still made the request. What would have happened if Rick said yes? Would that have changed anything?
We have to give a lot of credit to the actors for such a brilliant take on a fun moment in the show. Pollyanna McIntosh own the role of Jadis and her clipped dialogue and straight face bring the whole thing together.
