On the season finale of The Walking Dead, Negan said he wants Daryl back, but why does Daryl matter so much to him?

“Daryl. I gotta get me my Daryl back.”

Negan’s pride might prove to be his downfall someday. He doesn’t like the fact that Daryl escaped the Sanctuary, and when he sees Daryl in Alexandria, he says he wants him back as if he’s a possession. In fact, after Negan tells Rick that he wants his Daryl back, he says he also wants the pool table and all the cues and chalk.

When Negan realized Daryl was missing, he was furious. And not only did Daryl escape, but Daryl was responsible for the death of Fat Joey. So why would Negan want him back?

There’s a saying that goes “He who dies with the most toys…still dies.” Negan is that guy, only he wants all the toys. He wants to be better than everyone else. He wants to know he has taken important things away from other people. And he wants to make sure everyone knows he’s the resident badass.

It’s like when you have two cats and one box. One cat will be in the box, and the other one wants it. They battle. The other cat wins the box, steps inside it, and loses interest. But, he won it.

Negan is a big cat.

And speaking of cats, things are a little different now because Ezekiel has a tiger, and you know that Negan is going to want Shiva, too.

Daryl represents a conquest for Negan. Negan conquered Daryl when Daryl was broken down after “causing” Glenn’s death. But Daryl isn’t broken anymore. Daryl got what he needed when Maggie told him he wasn’t responsible for Glenn’s death. And that makes him even more enticing for Negan, who gets to break him again.

The bottom line is there’s no real reason that Negan wants Daryl back, other than he wants him so no one else has him. But something tells me that Daryl isn’t going to be broken again.
