8) Eugene Betrays Alexandria

In an earlier article we argued that Eugene made the right decision to join the saviors and still feel that way. Here was a man constantly looked down upon and emasculated by his peers finally being treated with respect.

Eugene made the ‘correct select’ to survive and live a quality of life exceeding that of Alexandria. Mercenary-like in his will to accept ‘new’ employers so to speak, even though Negan didn’t necessarily give him a real choice. The Saviors treat Dr. Eugene Porter with true respect, give him food he likes, room and board, and real entertainment. Even the company of Negan’s wives for morale as long as there’s no shenanigans. Eugene’s betrayal was not because he despised his old running crew. Rather, he joined to what he believes to be the stronger, better option. Plus, it wasn’t really that optional.

He tried to warn Rick at Alexandria that the jig is up subtly before the scavenger revelation. Eugene has not lost his way on The Walking Dead. For the first time, he’s embracing what’s best for Eugene. Currently, that’s Negan and the Saviors. Perhaps in the future it will be Rick’s group again.
