6) Father Gabriel Betrays Rick and his Group

Father Gabriel had just witnessed Rick and his group utterly slaying Terminus’ crew in his church. It was really the first time he had really encountered the group and he was unsure of the type people they were. Despite Rick and his group keeping him alive all the way over to Alexandria, his loyalty ultimately disintegrated upon stepping foot in the walls of Alexandria.

For the first time in a long time on The Walking Dead, Father Gabriel felt safe. In fact, so safe he would approach a stranger, the leader of Alexandria, Deanna Monroe. In a one on one conversation with Maggie overhearing, Father Gabriel offered truly disparaging words about Rick and the rest of the group. Insisting she watch out for them and that they were not good people.

Deanna maintained her steadfast loyalty to her new constable Rick Grimes, believing him still to be the future of the community. Father Gabriel’s words however, would not be forgotten. Neither by Deanna or Maggie. Instead of hurting just one group with his word of warning, he damaged both. Deanna’s faith in her new residents and Rick’s group’s trust in one of their own as worthy.
