Rick finding Michonne alive during the gut wrenching battle in Alexandria during the season 7 finale of The Walking Dead is filled with passion and relief.

As the war against Negan and The Scavengers ensues during the season 7 finale of The Walking Dead, it is quickly realized that Rick is unable to provide aid to Michonne. He could only watch in horror from a distance as she battled for her life. It is never easy watching a strong a person being beat to a pulp, but add in that you have feelings (possibly love) and it becomes a heartache.

Jadis and The Scavengers betrayal is an unexpected surprise to Rick and the group with dire consequences for everyone. Michonne, a stealthy warrior who has battled the evils of the apocalypse since the end of season 2, is attacked viciously by a member of The Scavengers. The assumption that she will immediately take this danger out is numbed as she is beaten over and over.

Rick and Carl facing their own demise with an unapologetic bat welding Negan with no intentions of sparing Carl’s life this time around.  Rick maintains his stance not returning to his defeated persona as witnessed in the beginning of the season.

The ill-fated gun shot is heard and Rick’s eyes immediately turn to from concern to worry.  He is unsure if Michonne is still alive and wondered who fell from the overwatch.

The mighty tiger Shiva from The Kingdom interrupts Negan’s Lucille moment and frightens him. Rick attempts to make his way to find Michonne to confirm if she is dead or alive.

Finding the body of the woman from The Scavengers offers no relief to Rick as he searches for a clear resolution.  Is Michonne dead or alive? Thankfully Michonne still breathes! Although beaten, bloodied and unable to stand. For the moment she is alive.  It is in this instant the connection between Rick and Michonne (Richonne) is undeniable and strong.

Will the writers of AMC’s The Walking Dead allow this courtship  between Rick and Michonne to fully develop in future episodes?  We will have to find out when the hit AMC zombie survival drama returns in October of 2017.
