9 Problems With The Walking Dead Nobody Wants To Admit: A Counterpoint
By Liam O'Leary
Counterpoint #1: Survivors will inevitably adjust to walkers.
The first point Jules from WhatCulture made wasn’t an entirely invalid one: The walkers just aren’t a threat anymore. It’s quite true, actually. The walkers just haven’t been presented as that much of a threat in the show since late in season two. At least, not individually.
At the beginning of the show, and the first half of the second season, one walker was enough to scare people. Since then, however, the only time walkers have really been threatening is when they’re in large groups.
Now, obviously, it would be ideal for a zombie show to have zombies as its primary threat to our protagonists, but, let’s be honest, Rick’s group being so unfazed by the dead is relatively accurate. Surviving for long stretches without the security of a base, has forced Rick’s group to deal with walkers constantly. As such, it also makes them far more familiar with the undead, and far less afraid of them.
This is just inevitable. It’s only natural that, over time, survivors of a zombie apocalypse will get used to their environment.
That said, this is a problem for Fear The Walking Dead, where everyone seems to have gotten used to the infected in the span of maybe a month. But, that’s another story for another day.
