#5. Why didn’t Rick protect Carl?

Pam Smith on Facebook “My question is, in the finale, when Negan had Rick kneeling again & told him point blank he was going to kill Carl, why did Rick just accept that? If that were my kid, I would have jumped up & tried to do something to intervene!”

This was one of the major problems with the season 7 finale for many fans. When confronted by Negan, Rick and Carl tried to sit proud and strong, however they probably shouldn’t have been so confident.

Negan said that he was going to kill Carl using Lucille, but Rick barely even batted an eye. Instead, he used his opportunity to speak to enrage Negan and probably increase the odds that Carl would have his brains bashed in.

For many parents, that scene was hard to watch. The first instinct would be to do anything to protect the safety of their child, even if it meant putting their own life in danger. The fact that Rick didn’t do that and instead antagonized The Saviors rubbed many people the wrong way.

Rick had spoken with Michonne about being willing to lose everything to win the war, and it appears he even meant Carl when saying that. Poor Carl.
