“The Rise of Negan”

While I haven’t gotten to that point yet in The Walking Dead comics, I know that, eventually, time is devoted to showing how Negan became the Negan we know now. If AMC aren’t thinking of at least doing this story as a webisode, they need their collective heads examined.

Let’s not beat around the bush here: Negan is one the most interesting characters in The Walking Dead. Period.

He is on the one hand, a towering menace; At any time, he can turn around and kill someone without so much as flinching. Yet, on the other hand, he’s surprisingly human; He doesn’t like killing women, or children, and abhors the idea of rape.

This sort of Jekyll and Hyde aspect of Negan makes one wonder: How did he become this way? Was he always like this, or, did the apocalypse make him this way?

I think it would make for pretty compelling television to see Negan as the world began to crumble around him. What did Negan do when he realized what was going on? Where did he go? How did he form The Saviors?

If they wanted to, AMC could even incorporate the little of The Sanctuary’s backstory we got from Gordon in “The Cell”, namely, that, without a fight, Negan took it over. Did he already have The Saviors with him then?

Who wouldn’t want to see just a little bit of how Negan was in the early stages of the outbreak? Who wouldn’t want to see how Negan came to take over The Sanctuary and formed The Saviors? There’s so much to Negan, including his strange code, and his early conflicts with groups like Oceanside, that there’s plenty to dip into.

Now, I know some might fear that showing Negan’s backstory would dispel his mystique, but, given how far along The Walking Dead is now, showing a few keypoints would still leave plenty to the imagination.
