3) Rick and Lori
The only reason Rick and Lori’s relationship demise is relegated to #3 on this list is because the relationship never experiences a true breakup. Instead it merely fades away and crumbles scene by scene. The beginning of the end is when Lori reveals she wanted to potential abort the baby (who Shane might be the father of), so the child wouldn’t have to live in such a world. All without consulting Rick in the process at all. Later, when Rick is forced to take out Shane, Lori does not take his side.
There is no understanding to be made between the two initially. While later Lori regrets it, it’s already too late. The relationship is fully on ice with no return. Rick and Lori communicate on a purely co-parental basis rather than as loving husband and wife for the rest of the show.
By the time it appears that Rick is ready to potentially reconcile, Lori meets her untimely end. Rick does not get over this fact for quite some time, visualizing the ghost of Lori wherever he goes. It’s not until he meets Jessie Anderson, that he feels he can love again. We’re talking seasons later on The Walking Dead!
