4. Carol And Daryl Face Death Together

From season 5 episode 6: “Consumed”

In this scene, also from “Consumed”, they manage to get close to the ambulance with the crosses on the back that they saw from an office building. It is smashed into a guard rail on a parking deck over a big drop to the road below. They explore it looking for clues but get overrun by walkers. In desperation they lock themselves inside the vehicle, but the vehicle doesn’t run and the crowd of walkers is getting thicker.

Eventually they see that the only way out is down. They buckle their seat belts, knowing they probably won’t survive, and start rocking the vehicle to push it off the deck. Just as the vehicle is about to go through the guard rail and crash down they take each other’s hands.

Facing death, for the thousandth time, they do it together holding hands. It’s a heartbreaking and emotional moment but also one that tells the story of their relationship in that one gesture. They can face anything as long as they are facing it together.

Ultimately they do survive the crash although Carol is pretty banged up. They go right back to looking for Beth and trying to figure out a way to approach Grady Memorial to get her back. They take refuge in an office building where they can see the hospital and that’s where they find Noah.
