#4. Staying alive in the hospital

Oswald Yon on Facebook asks “I have a question: how did rick stay alive for 45 days? Answer me that!”

Every once in a while, fans need to suspend their belief of reality for a little while and just accept that The Walking Dead is fictional entertainment, and this is one of those cases where trying to figure out how it happened will really hurt your head.

Rick Grimes was in his coma in the hospital when Shane visited him. Shane made sure that walkers wouldn’t get to Rick, and that is supposed to be what allowed him to stay alive in the hospital for so long.

The 45 days, I assume, is cumulative. I think that was the total time he spent in the coma at the hospital. But that also means he would have needed more time to adjust to standing up and even be absolutely starving.

I’m not sure how long Rick was laying in his bed in the coma, but it’s hard to know how long he was left unattended before he came to. This would be a great question for the man himself, Robert Kirkman…but UPROXX did a great job of explaining this as well.
