Fear the Walking Dead is back and there are lots of new faces to meet. Let’s take a moment to meet the Otto Family.

We’ve been seeing the Otto Family in previews for season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead, and this is a great time to learn more about them.

The Otto Family is led by patriarch Jeremiah, a militia man and prepper who has been spending his time getting ready for the fall of civilization. His two sons live with him on his massive ranch and their followers all believe in their mission to stay alive when democracy fails.

Jeremiah’s oldest son Jake studied law and has a very different perspective on his father’s ideas, but he’s loyal to his father. Youngest son Troy is a firm believer in the mission and has no trouble enforcing the rules, even when it means killing people. Obviously no one could ever prepare for zombies to rise from the dead, but Jeremiah’s group was well stocked and well prepared for the madness.

Here are brief character bios from AMC:

Jeremiah Otto Sr, (Dayton Callie): “A patriotic border militiaman that railed against the region’s cartel violence and illegal immigration, Otto always expected the fall of democracy – he didn’t plan on the rise of the Dead.”

Jake Otto (Sam Underwood): “The first born of a border militiaman who spent his life preparing for the fall of democracy, Jake is the scion of a prepper family with mixed feelings about his father’s militant philosophy.”

Troy Otto (Daniel Sherman): “The youngest son of Jeremiah Otto, Troy has embraced the violence of the apocalypse. He would kill to protect his father, his family, and his people – and often does.”

As preppers, the Otto Family and the people at their ranch have been getting ready for something to happen. They have resources, including the highly valuable shelter, safety and food that everyone else wants. That means they have a lot to protect, and they don’t need more people tapping into their supplies.
