While you may need to accept you’re IN a zombie apocalypse to survive it, Fear The Walking Dead’s season premiere showed you SHOULDN’T accept being killed.

Let me just get this out of the way: I’m not naive, I know that death isn’t something we can or can’t accept. The simple fact is, all of us will die, eventually, a zombie apocalypse will likely increase our chances of doing just that.

However, something we can choose to accept or, in this case, not accept in a zombie apocalypse? Getting killed.  Let’s face it, there will be hostiles out there and they probably will try to kill us. It is, or at least has the potential to be, within our power to determine whether or not they succeed.

Why would they try to kill us? Sadly, the reasons are infinite, even if they completely senseless and insane.

You’ll learn quickly that, once society completely breaks down, there are few depths some people won’t stoop to. Worse still, is that the people who will stoop to those depths may seem no different than you; Just because a person doesn’t look like a homicidal maniac, doesn’t mean they aren’t one.

Whatever the case may be, those people will likely attempt to kill you at some point, and you can’t let them do it.

Now, obviously, this is easier said than done. That’s fine, I’m not going to argue that it will be easy. What I will argue is that, you can’t make things easy for those who seek to kill you, either. If you think a hostile is attempting or planning to do you harm, you must fight back.

How? Well, some of that can come down to preparation, by that, I mean, if you happened to learn boxing, wrestling, or some other martial art prior to the outbreak, now would be a good time to make use of it.

Conversely, if you don’t know such skills, maybe try to seek them out and learn how to do them now, while you can. It should also be noted that practicing these fighting techniques is also a great way to stay in shape, which is always helpful.

Now, if you don’t know any serious fighting techniques, that doesn’t mean you’re defenseless, just that you’ll have rely a bit more on instinct to survive.

We actually have an amazing capacity for self-defense: Our hands, arms, feet, legs, even our teeth can be used to defend ourselves.

On top of that, when our bodies detect that we’re in a life-or-death situation, it begins pumping adrenaline, making us capable of feats that border on superhuman.

Should you be in a position where someone is legitimately trying to kill you or someone you care about, you should use these factors to stop at nothing to defend yourself and your loved ones. Whatever you can do to keep yourself and others alive, do it.

Of course, it may not always be wise to just charge the hostiles seeking to kill you and I’m not going to say otherwise.

Depending on your circumstances, you may have to wait for an opening to strike back. If this is the case, so be it, there’s no point in being hasty and attacking when doing so will be an easy shot for your would-be killer.

But, regardless of the situation, if there’s one thing I hope I’ve imparted upon you it’s this: Once the zombie apocalypse begins, your number one goal is to survive.

You need to do whatever it takes to ensure that, at the end of the day, you and the people you care about are still breathing. If hostiles should set upon you with lethal intent, you must not allow them to succeed.

We may have to accept the zombie apocalypse, we have to accept that death is inevitable, but, that doesn’t mean we just have to lay back and take it. Fight back. It’s all about survival, now.

This is why you followThe Rules.
