Fear The Walking Dead premiere leads the Sunday night cable ratings
By Sonya Iryna
Fear The Walking Dead ratings were down from previous premieres, but the show still lead the Sunday night cable ratings.
Fear The Walking Dead kicked off a third season on Sunday night with two back to back episodes. The ratings were lower than previous premieres. But the show still held the number one and number two slots for Sunday night cable live views.
The first episode of the third season had 3.1 million live views and the second episode directly following had 2.6 million live views. While those numbers are lower than previous seasons they are consistent with the drop in cable ratings across the board. Millions of cable subscribers cut the cord in the last year. And cable ratings for all shows are lower as a result.
The pilot episode of Fear The Walking Dead back in 2015 scored 10 million views. The second season premiere finished with 6.6 million views. Ratings for most of the second season leveled off at about 3 million live views per episode.
So while the show’s third season premiere ratings were lower than previous seasons it’s not a reason for concern. Fear The Walking Dead still led the pack in the ratings for live cable views.
Mixed Emotions About Fear The Walking Dead
Much of The Walking Dead’s massive fandom have been conflicted in their feelings for Fear The Walking Dead. The first couple of seasons have been a bit uneven. But, so were The Walking Dead’s first two seasons. Fans who want to love the show but so far haven’t are being drawn back to give the show another show based on the buzz about the current season. And the news that came earlier this year that Scott Gimple would be joining The Walking Dead’s companion series as well continuing to work on The Walking Dead.

Many fans were disappointed in the early seasons of the show because they felt the show didn’t spend enough time exploring the origins of the outbreak and the chaos surrounding the fall of society. The storyline taking the core group of survivors to Mexico and now back to the US also was confusing for some fans.
Finding Solid Ground
The first two episodes of the third season of Fear The Walking Dead look promising however. Now that the Clark family and Luciana have taken up residence at the Broke Jaw Ranch, although grudgingly, it looks like fans will get the story development they have been wanting.
Travis’ shocking death means that now Madison is left to negotiate the tricky post apocalyptic world alone. Fans have mixed feelings about Madison but there’s no doubt she’s the most capable character at this point. Hopefully she and Strand will be reunited at some point because they are a very powerful team.

There’s still a few questions that need to be answered. Like where is Ofelia? And is Daniel Salazar alive? But it seems that the third season of Fear The Walking Dead is going to be the strongest season yet.
