Fear The Walking Dead’s premiere had a nearly record-breaking increase in Live+3 views for the first two episodes of season 3.

Fear The Walking Dead’s live views for the first two episodes that aired on June 4th were the lowest premiere ratings the show has had. But just like The Walking Dead picked up massive views in extended views.

The first two episodes of Fear The Walking Dead season 3 had 3.1 million and 2.7 million live views respectively. But once the Live+3 views were counted the episodes scored 4.6 million views and 4.1 million views respectively.

Each episode had an increase of more than 50% in extended views. Live+3 views count the number of live views plus streaming, DVR and On Demand views in the three days after the episodes aired.

The impressive jumps in extended viewing are consistent with the large increases in views that The Walking Dead  had in season 7. Lower views for Fear The Walking Dead can be attributed to other factors like the huge number of people who have dropped cable subscriptions in the last year.

Live Views For “TEOTWAWKI”

The live views for the 3rd episode of Fear The Walking Dead season 3 “TEOTWAWKI” were consistent with the live views for the first two episodes. The episode had 2.5 million live views. Based on the performance of the first two episodes of the season “TEOTWAWKI” will probably jump by at least a million once the extended views come in.

A Legitimate Hit

Fear The Walking Dead hasn’t come close to achieving the massive ratings that The Walking Dead has. But it’s unfair to compare the two shows. Both are legitimate hits for AMC. The Walking Dead sets a pretty high bar when it comes to ratings. But no other show in the genre has been able to come close to matching The Walking Dead’s ratings.

The closest competitors to Fear The Walking Dead in the genre are American Horror Story and Game of Thrones. The early seasons of Game of Thrones averaged only 2-3 million views. The early seasons of American Horror Story  averaged about 2.5 million views per episode. So within the genre Fear The Walking Dead is still a leader and a hit in its own right.

Social media buzz for season 3 is strong. Fans who previously gave up on the show are checking it out again. This could be the season that Fear  finally finds solid footing.
