#3. Fueling up

@vibesbmx on Twitter asks: “How does anyone still have any gasoline left?!”

They have shown the survivors going on gas runs to siphon fuel from other vehicles, but I am quite sure that’s not what you’re talking about. The amount of driving done in the zombie apocalypse is quite astounding, considering how gasoline as a shorter shelf life, about 3 months if untreated.

However, there are ways to prolong the life of gas. There are additives such as STA-BIL that can be combined with the gas to make it last for over a year in storage. While that would make sense for a large, prepared group like The Saviors, it doesn’t explain much about how an unprepared community like Alexandria gets their gas.

But, the fuel will run dry. Some communities are already adapting to the lack of gas, such as The Kingdom using horses and The Scavengers riding their bicycles. Driving is one of the last normal things for the survivors, so maybe the show will use that cutoff to throw things back a bit and decrease the jumping between communities.

According to the Wikipedia timeline, the show is approximately 634 days into the zombie apocalypse, which means any fuel that even The Saviors have preserved will likely be going bad soon.

I hope you like horses, because there will probably be quite a few once the cars become useless.
