Connor

On the surface, Connor doesn’t seem to be that bad of a guy. He makes sure his crew has a good meal, he has a pregnant woman on his crew (A lesser man would have considered her a liability), and he just seems to be out for supplies and useful people to join his crew. When the group meet him, he seems, for the most part, like a reasonable guy.

However, the problem comes not necessarily from him, but, from his brother, Reed.

Once again, on the surface, Connor taking care of his kid brother (Something he’s apparently always had to do) seems like a good thing.

Yet, when you take into account what we learn from Jack…things begin to unravel.

Specifically, that Reed has a tendency to kill a lot of the people the pirates take captive.

If Jack knows, you mean to tell me that Reed’s brother doesn’t?

I don’t think so.

Chances are, if you have a sibling as cruel and violent as Reed, I can’t imagine you wouldn’t be at least somewhat aware of it.

Now, let’s assume that Connor does know what Reed is doing. That means, he’s just willfully turning a blind eye to the fact his little brother is going around murdering people!

The image of him as a decent person kind of disintegrates when you realize he’s letting his serial killer brother run loose on every ship he captures. Reed is a predator on the loose, and Connor just ignores it.

I know that controlling someone like Reed wouldn’t be a total cakewalk, but, Reed clearly respected and listened to his brother. Would it have been too much for Connor to reign his brother in just a little bit? He couldn’t have tried to get him to stop killing people?

I honestly think he could have controlled Reed better, maybe saved a few lives, if he just made the damned effort.

Sometimes, you are your brother’s keeper. And if you let him be a monster…what does that make you?
