Fear the Walking Dead gave us a lot of insight into the people who shot down the helicopter. That leads to more questions ahead of “Red Dirt.”

Each week Fear the Walking Dead has been moving the story along, and after episode 305 we finally learn that there is another group out there. This new group has the firepower to not only shoot down a helicopter, but they are also confident enough to order everyone to abandon Broke Jaw Ranch.

Clearly, this leaves us with questions ahead of the July 2 episode “Red Dirt.”

Who Is Walker?

Walker knows Troy, and he knows the other people at Broke Jaw Ranch. His history with Jeremiah Otto goes back before Troy was born. He has no problem telling Troy to deliver his message to the people at the ranch, and he has the guts to make Troy leave his supplies and boots behind. Troy doesn’t like this, but he goes along with it. What is it about Walker that makes Troy listen to him? What does Troy know about him?

We’re looking forward to learning more about Walker’s connection to the founding fathers of Broke Jaw Ranch.

Who owns Broke Jaw Ranch?

The question of Walker’s identity leads us to the question of who owns Broke Jaw Ranch. The title of the episode, “Red Dirt,” would seem to suggest that the land was stolen from Native Americans. Could Walker be successful in his attempt to reclaim the land? Walker wants Otto to abandon the ranch, but it makes you wonder how Otto came to be in possession of the ranch in the first place.

What happens if the people living at Broke Jaw Ranch are forced to leave? Will they fight for their land or will they flee? Where will they go?

Can Nick cope with losing Luciana?

Nick has to face what it’s like to be left behind when someone he cares about leaves him. He has done this over and over again to his family, and now he’s seeing what it feels like. He’s in the same position Madison was left in following their departure from Casa de Abigail at the end of season 2. Nick decided to leave on his own, and Madison was stuck trying to take care of her daughter while worrying about her son.

Nick needs to make a decision now. Does he stay with his family, or does her go after his girlfriend?

Where the heck did Tough Madison come from?

Madison has blossomed as a character since Travis died. She is proving how tough she is by standing up to Troy and holding her own in confrontations, earning the respect of the other members of Troy’s team. In this regard, her plan is working perfectly. She has successfully managed to secure her spot as a member of Troy’s trusted inner circle.

Madison also makes an impression on Walker, who tells her that she’s part of a lost cause. She doesn’t flinch, and she tells him that this is her cause because she lost Travis. This resonates with Walker even though he doesn’t respond.

How long will she be able to keep this up? Is this the Madison we can expect to see moving forward?

Where is Ofelia?

We’re going to keep asking this question until she shows up. We haven’t seen her yet, but we know she isn’t at the resort and we know she isn’t at the ranch. Could she be with Walker’s people? Will she meet up with Luciana?

Where could she be?

Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
