Review: Fear The Walking Dead episode 306 ‘Red Dirt’
By Adam Carlson
Overall impression of FTWD 306
While not a lot happened in this episode of Fear The Walking Dead, it still did exactly what it needed to do in order to set up an amazing midseason finale in back-to-back episodes on July 9, 2017.

Slowing things down a touch to build the drama between the two groups of survivors fighting over land was the right call. Even though it forces the momentum of the series to slow down quite a bit, it does look to give a big payoff for the midseason finale.
So many good things came in this episode. Troy’s mental situation was explored in a big way and the group at the reservation showed off their power to scare the people of the ranch. It showed the community use fear in many ways and show different people respond in different ways.
Sadly, there was a lot of cost though. Losing Gretchen Trimbol and her family was rough and seeing another animal getting eaten was unsettling. Add in Jake sneaking off and Alicia going after him, and it could be an electric midseason finale.
As a whole, this was a solid episode, but it lacked the big punches of the other installments during this season of Fear The Walking Dead. It likely won’t be people’s favorites…but it should still be generally liked by fans.
Next week, fans will get treated to back-to-back episodes of Fear The Walking Dead including the big midseason finale. You won’t want to miss what could be an intense and power end to the first half of season 3 on July 9, 2017.
