All of a sudden, Madison Clark is becoming a game player on Fear the Walking Dead. Now she’s playing a dangerous game in order to protect her family.

Madison has been walking a fine line with Troy Otto since the moment they first met on the Fear the Walking Dead season premiere. With the midseason finale looming, she seems to be throwing her support behind the Otto family in hopes that her new allies can help to keep her own family safe. She’s willing to play a dangerous game to keep the people of Broke Jaw Ranch fighting the good fight.

One of the most interesting aspects of the relationship between Madison and Troy is that Madison has become stronger as a person the longer she’s around Troy. She knows he needs a strong support system and can see that Jeremiah Otto isn’t providing one for his sons. Jake, like Alicia, is getting along without a strong parental influence, but Troy needs her support. He won’t admit it, but he does.

When Madison made the decision to lie for the Otto family in Fear the Walking Dead episode 306, “Red Dirt,” she sealed her fate. Though she could claim ignorance of what really happened, she has aligned herself with Troy and Jeremiah enough to where plausible deniability fades away. She has announced herself as an ally to the Otto family to the mysterious Walker, who won’t accept that she was merely trying to protect her family. She laid down a gauntlet and told him where she stands.

Now she’s playing a dangerous game. If it pays off, she and her family will be safe. If it doesn’t, any number of bad things could befall the Clark clan.
