Connor

In my prosecution of Connor, it focused on the one true bad we saw from him: Reed. He let Reed run loose, killing anyone on the boats they captured. He failed to be “his brother’s keeper” as the saying goes…

…But, how easy could it have been?

My guess? The words “Not Very” come to mind.

Think about it: You have a member of your group who’s disturbed, violent, and cruel.

What do you do?

Normally, one would think the best course of action would be to ditch them ASAP, but you can’t…because it’s your little brother.

In Connor’s case, you’ve been looking out for said little brother your entire life, you can’t just bail on him when the world goes to shit. You protected him from your abusive father, to abandon him now would make your earlier protection of him pointless.

The only thing you can do is keep your brother close and try to make sure his personality flaws don’t affect your group.

Could Connor have done more to reign in his brother? Probably. I’m sure that Connor could have used the fact Reed respected him to get him to curtail his murderous antics.

Yet, I think a certain amount of practicality and pragmatism took hold. I think Connor saw these violent tendencies in his brother — Something which would not go away…ever — and finally found a situation where they could be helpful.

The zombie apocalypse would be violent, and with Connor’s crew stealing supplies and people, it wouldn’t have taken them long to accrue enemies. I’m under the belief that Connor figured this violent world finally gave his brother an environment he’d be suited to. In its own way, a means of helping keep his brother in check.

Connor was not a bad person. He was a relatively normal person thrust into an abnormal circumstance.

With a younger brother with an incurable taste for violence, he had little choice but to make the best of his situation. He certainly could have tried harder to reign in his brother, but, he can’t be blamed for wanting to protect him.
